Raw Koncept Media Group and Lakota Regime
Entertainment are pleased to announce that renowned VA hip-hop producer Nottz
(Kanye West, Snoop Dog, Scarface, Notorious B.I.G., Busta Rhymes, J. Dilla, The
Game, Asher Roth) is busy putting the finishing touches on the long overdue
sophomore effort by veteran Norfolk rap crew, DMP. Slated for a Spring release,
the new album, God Made Durt, features core DMP members Big Shot Manceeni, Ivory
Keyes, Starboy, Top G and Killa Khizman, getting grimy over signature beats by
one of the most talented cut creators in the game. "It's all 'cause of the man
Nottz," credits rapper Ivory Keyes who, like most of the posse, has been down
with the visionary beatmaker since middle school. "We all from different parts
of the block and he seen something in all of us and tried to give us a chance...
He put us all together and he brings the beats."
After 15+ years
together, a litany of underground mixtapes and one "unofficial" album under
their belt, Norfolk's favorite sons feel like they've finally arrived with this
project. "We not just rapping and tapping," assures Killa Khizman, the youngest
and newest member of the group. "Most of the songs are conceptual, there's a
point to em... I don't think people are expecting this type of album from
us."DMP fans were treated to a preview of what's to come with the early release
of two hardcore hip-hop tracks late last year: "Ball Game" and "We Aint
Playin'." A new radio friendly song, "Pop Sh*t" featuring Joell Ortiz, was
leaked last week. The album also includes guest turns by Pusha T of Clipse on
"How Many Tears," RL of Next on the track "Love Song" and R&B newcomer
Shateish on "My Heart." "Remember when records used to drop and that feeling you
used to get?" asks Big Shot Manceeni. "It gave you a certain feeling that music
nowadays don't give you. Well, what's where we taking it back to with this
album... That golden era of hip-hop... Because that's what's
missing."
Nottz presents DMP will storm SXSW this week with an official
performance on Wednesday, March 14th at Malaia Upstairs (300 E. 6th St.)
alongside Murs, J. Pinder and others. The guys will also appear at the Dynamic
Producer event on Friday afternoon at Hudson On Fifth (301 W. 5th
St).
