Navino debuts on US iTunes Reggae Chart peaking at

number >9 with “Raw Truth”

By Lesley Hayles | December 9, 2023

Jamaican Dancehall artist, Navino, has been working hard throughout his career and maintained a presence with hits like “Fulla Gyal” on the Richter Scale Riddim produced by Dakrome Productions, collaborations with the legendary Beenie Man, as well as Kiprich, Anju Blaxx, Pink Boss, Jahmiel and most recently, Tajji on a track called “Real”, which came out in November 2023. Now, since the release of “Raw Truth” on Friday, December 8, Navino is experiencing success after over a decade when “Chillin Time” on the Overproof Riddim charted in 2011.

Though holding steadfast all these years in the industry, Navino hasn’t seen major success as of yet but with “Raw Truth” and the addition of A’Legends Productions to his already incredible team of producers, including his management at Real Live Records, he believes he’s on his way to the pinnacle of his career. To debut at number 17 at the end of release day was a feat within itself. However, to wake up the following day seeing “Raw Truth” break into the top 10 and peaking at number 9 was a proud and joyous moment he’ll never forget.

Raw Truth” was released on December 8 and distributed on all major media outlets via OneRPM. It was produced by 1Family Records, Real Live Records, DJ Treasure Music and A’Legends Productions. The official music video, also released on the same day, was directed by Foreign Flex TV and has racked up more than 67,000 views over the weekend. It was most successful after debuting at number 1, surpassing Sean Paul’s “Temperature” on the US iTunes Reggae Music Video Chart.

Navino is utterly grateful for the recognition and support from his loyal fans, especially to Jenelle Alexia from A’Legends, who helped to make this possible. The California-based artist believes that Jenelle has added that extra spark that was necessary to bring this recent success on. Navino’s consistency keeps him relevant but his determination and humble nature sets him apart, which will be the driving force to catapult his name to international recognition and inevitable world renowned fame.

Dr. MichelleG wants you to

Get With The Fix

Written by Lesley Hayles
[Union, New Jersey – November 11, 2023]

Dr. Michelle ‘MichelleG’ Gill is a Guyanese who grew up in the US and obtained a PhD in Human Services, practicing in the field of academia, teaching at 3 universities in the Social Work Departments and is also a government Child Abuse Investigator. She runs her own non-profit organization that hosts an annual Back-To-School Drive, providing educational resources to under-privileged families and donating to Jamaica and Guyana as well.

Based in New Jersey, MichelleG never knew she’d enter radio until calling into Roadblock Radio and speaking to DJ Banky Hype on air one day in 2014. Afterwards, she thought she’d try this and asked him if she could be a part of the station. He said yes! She co-hosted with DJ Naturalist first then Banky.

MichelleG hasn’t looked back and has enjoyed interviewing individuals worldwide, including Morgan Heritage, Minister Marion Hall, Shinehead, Pressure Busspipe, Mighty Crown, I-Octane, Denyque, Tifa, Nadg, Jahazeil Myrie, Jinyus, Ginjah, Queenie, Jamaican kickboxer Ruel, Shaniel Muir, victims of abuse, cancer survivors, and others. Futuristically, she’d love to interview Beres Hammond, Marcia Griffiths, Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Bounty Killa, Dexta Daps, Spice, Nadine Sutherland, Sean Paul, Masicka, Tarrus Riley, Shenseea, Vybz Kartel, Idris Elba, Oprah Winfrey, Gabrielle Union and persons who’ve paved the way for us.

During the 2020 pandemic, MichelleG started Get With The Fix (GWTFRadio based on the needs of our Caribbean community and because she wanted her own platform to fulfill those needs while still in control of her voice, informing the world about what’s happening, showcasing our music and giving upcoming DJs the opportunity to have a station to call home. Today, as the CEO of GWTF Digital Caribbean Radio Station, she manages 25 DJs and hosts residing in America and Jamaica.

One day, MichelleG will get the station onto the FM dial, continue working in the child abuse arena, teaching and giving back to her community through her non-profit. Her message to any woman who wants to follow in her footsteps is: “You can do it, don’t listen to the noise just follow your passion, there will be obstacles along the way but don’t watch no face, pick yourself up and keep pushing, imagine if I had listened to those women who told me that I couldn’t do this.”

Though it hasn’t been easy for her, MichelleG isn’t a quitter. “It has been rough because I had people who wanted me to quit, people who told me I wasn’t nobody, people who wanted to see me fail and when I say people the majority were women, but I’m not a quitter and I absolutely love everything that I do so I kept going and kept pushing and through it all, I’ve conquered it all, though the hate still exist,” she explained, not letting negativity discourage her.

MichelleG is also grateful for the cheerleaders in her corner, believing in her throughout her career and giving her their support.

The BIography of TaJJI

Written by Lesley Hayles
[Kingston, Jamaica – November 7, 2023]

Maurice Cooper, who goes by the moniker “Tajji”, was born in Kingston, Jamaica and grew in a garrison called Dunkirk in East Kingston on November 30. He attended the Hope Valley Experimental, Excelsior High and Dunoon Technical High schools.

Tajji realized he wanted to be an artist while still in the 10th grade at Dunoon. Dancehall phenoms, Spragga Benz and Assassin, also known as Agent Sasco, were based in his community at the time and he began hanging around them. This connection motivated Tajji to start pursuing music as he felt like he had a message and voice to share plus writing skills that came easily to him. “It was my comfort zone,” says Tajji. Bounty Killa is also a part of his musical influences.

A song called “Top A Wi Game”, produced by Redboom Supamix Productions, was his first official recording released in 2010. Tajji says he has been in the studio long before recording that song and even used to walk or take the bus to the studio if he wasn’t with Spragga or RedSquare Crew.

I would leave school and go to the studios just to be in that environment even if I wasn’t recording. Spragga told me to try and stay in that environment where creativity and opportunities can be open. So, I always wanted to be in that space.”

Since then, Tajji has worked with Frenz For Real Music, LMR Pro Productions, Konshens as both an artist and producer under his Subkonshus Music label, RedSquare Productions, Gourzong Muziq Production, Nolanding Music, Marvoni Records and so much more.

I like working with most of those [I’ve] named but I think it’s a chemistry with Redboom that makes music easier and more joyful and he gets the best out of most people he works with.” Tajji would like to work with a plethora of others in the industry but sums it up to any credible producer who knows music and how to make hits.

Currently, Tajji is still promoting his latest single, “Real”, which was produced by himself and his business partner under their TopKnotch Messi’jah Music label. It was a collaborative effort on all fronts alongside Marvoni Records in production and Navino as a featured artist. “Real” was officially released on June 28, 2023; the music video was uploaded on YouTube November 1st. Created by Vizualty and directed by Adnan, the video was distributed by MarvMent and is a true definition of high quality that is very pleasing to the eyes. Tajji is also working on singles for an upcoming EP that he’s hoping to drop in the first quarter of 2024. Always writing and recording new music and coming up with ideas of a fresh presentation of his brand, Tajji has other singles that will be out by early next year before the EP drops.

With sights set on accomplishing the goal of getting his message spread to all parts of the world, the listening ears and hearts of people from every nation and to solidify his name in music, Tajji is surely on the right path. He wants to share the lessons of life whether good or bad, happy or sad, reality and consciousness on Dancehall or Reggae beats, and awareness to fellow artists too.

Dancehall and Reggae are his preferred genres of choice. However, Tajji also likes Trap and fusing other sounds depending on his mood, how the beat is produced and the vibe of the sound.

The feedback has been very good, giving the feeling that it’s Tajji’s best work thus far. The independent artist says it’s been a journey of good and bad moments, many ups and downs. The negative comments or situations are usually from the politics of the business and the biases from both inside and outside the industry. The biggest challenge is for the people recognizing the talent and for him to get that elusive, but inevitable, break. Now based in California after migrating in 2015, Tajji is stepping out from the shadows to claim a top spot in Dancehall.

Producer Lee Milla Scores Number 3 Hit with Former 6ix member, Chronic Law

By Lesley Hayles
[Kingston, Jamaica – Monday, May 8, 2023]
Producer Lee Milla of Lee Milla Productions, has landed at number 3 on the iTunes Reggae Albums Chart with the Penance Riddim. The compilation features the Law Boss Chronic Law, a member of Squash’s 6ix Crew. Lee Milla says he is now more focused on making good music with any progressive artiste regardless of what team they are associated with.

The Penance Riddim was co-produced alongside Scotch Hot Records and released on Friday, May 5, 2023 via 21st Hapilos Digital Distribution. By early Monday afternoon (May 8), the compilation had peaked at number 3! The album consists of 6 artists and 7 songs, 14 in total as each has both explicit and radio edit versions. Chronic Law starts it off with “Revenge”, while Billboard recording artiste, Xyclone, has a track called “Waste Energy”. Female duo Kiishea, managed by Lee Milla and Levels To Life Productions, have 2 songs on the Penance Riddim, while newcomers AI Milly, Nervz and 1Kiko had their say with a song apiece.

Did Lee Milla pay his “penance” to the 6ix boss with this rhythm? Is Chronic Law seeking “revenge” against his rivals? Or is everyone done with all that “waste energy” like Xyclone? Only time will tell, especially if Penance Riddim hits number 1, which Lee Milla says is the goal.

Skerrit Bwoy Enjoys Jesus Party on US iTunes Electronic Charts at #1

Written by Lesley Hayles
March 10, 2023

Gospel artiste Skerrit Bwoy is ravishing in glory as he hits the number 1 spot with his album “Jesus Party Vol. 1” on the US iTunes Electronic Chart a year after its initial release. The 11-song compilation officially came out on March 4, 2022 and includes a variety of high-tempo Christian dance tracks that even atheists would enjoy. Skerrit Bwoy attributes this recent success due to the growing popularity of the #JesusPartyChallenge created by Jamaican viral dancing sensation Drip King on TikTok. The title song “Jesus Party” is the second track on the album and is a dance anthem for Christians to celebrate with anytime.

Skerrit Bwoy said, “I decided that I wanted to make it possible for Christians to have music and a place to celebrate every day. That’s when the Holy Spirit gave me the hook, ‘Every day, we party and a turn up in a Jesus’ name.’

Jesus Party” was produced by Skerrit Bwoy himself with the creative mixing done at his Electric Gospel studio in the Bronx, New York. He recorded the lead vocals at Rawson Studio in Brooklyn, New York to get an analog-type grit in the vocals. Then everything was sent over to M1 Mixing and Mastering in Canada to get it commercially polished to international standards.

Dancers that some may not consider Christians started doing the challenge. People from Japan, Korea, Latvia, UK, Antigua, Nigeria, Columbia, and other places are joining in this challenge.
Skerrit Bwoy said that he “was almost in tears over the outpouring of support” after a friend brought the chart to his attention while “Jesus Party” was at #47. He then appealed to family, friends and fans to amp up support. Though it took a while, the “Jesus Party Vol. 1” album eventually reached #1 on iTunes Electronic Chart on March 8, 2023. It also hit #115 overall on the entire platform and the single peaked at #7.

Only God and the community can pull off a move like that. You can correct me if I’m wrong, but I have never seen a song about Jesus reach #1 on the Electronic Chart before. I am incredibly humbled and grateful to everyone that is still purchasing the album even now, to keep up charting,” says an elated and grateful Skerrit Bwoy.

After accepting Jesus Christ as his personal God and Savior on November 20th, 2011, Skerrit Bwoy attended Nyack College, now known as Alliance University in New York City where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Music, Pastoral Ministry, and Computer Science. He has just returned to school to further his education towards a Master of Divinity, with a concentration on Church Development.

This husband, father of 4 children and former Dancehall daggering king, born Dale Richardson from Antigua, is steadfast in his musical journey with the hope that “Jesus Party” can be the one to open doors to invite the world to a more fun relationship with Jesus. Skerrit Bwoy wants to make an even more significant and wholesome impact on the world with this style of Electric Gospel music.

P A R O N Y D E

By LESLEY HAYLES

Upcoming Dancehall/Reggae Artiste, Paronyde, was born Talbert Brown in Spanish Town on January 23rd and grew up around the March Pen Road, Eltham Park, Eltham View and Mount View areas in St Catherine. He attended the Jonathan Grant, Willow Dean and Dunoon Technical High schools.

Brown got the name “Paronyde” from a childhood friend who gave it to him as a joke. When he realized he wanted to be an artiste around the age of 15, Brown decided to keep the name Paronyde as his stage name. It wasn’t until he turned 22, though, that he started to pursue music. His mother has always supported this career choice but not his father, especially since no other musician is in his family.

Growing up, however, Paronyde had the likes of Half Pint, Bob Marley, Edi Fitzroy, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Lt Stitchie, Admiral Bailey, Papa San, Wolfman, Lady Saw, Marcia Griffiths, Junior Tucker, JC Lodge, Nadine Sutherland, Nitty Kutchie, Bushman, Chaka Demus and Pliers as his influences. Musically, he is also inspired by Ras Ghandi, Notorious B.I.G, Kibaki and Lt Stitchie, just to name a few.

His first recording was a track called “Next DJ Out Of Jamaica” on the One Pop/Taxi Gang label in 2003 working with Kaz One Pop. It was never released and the disappointment caused Paronyde to take a break from music. Eventually, Paronyde migrated to the United States in March 2007, where he went on to become a yacht detailer of a company he co-owns called Island Yacht Detailing. The Florida-based Artiste met popular DJ/Artiste/Producer, Supahype, and Dancehall Artiste, Chi Ching Ching, in 2009 which then revitalized his passion for music.

It wasn’t until 2019, however, that Paronyde began recording again. Since then, Paronyde has worked with Supahype from 2020 on several projects; Dave Richards and the Home Bred Band on songs called “Everybody” featuring Shauna Allen and “Freaky Girls” yet to be released under his label alongside Home Bred Productions; as well as Krish Will. He likes working with Supahype and sees many great tracks coming from the UPT camp for years to come.

It would be an honour for him to work with Kibaki, Spice, Ghandi, Jada Kingdom, Shenseea, Bounty Killer and Nitty Kutchie. Currently, a collaboration with the latter is already in the making. Paronyde is also working on his EP, with singles like “Yeng Yeng/110” released in May 2021 on the Styling Gel Riddim, “UFO Love”, “If I Should Die Tonight” and “Worl Gyalis” featuring Supahype, set for release in the upcoming months.

The preference is always to do Dancehall and Reggae music first but Paronyde has done records in other genres like Pop, EDM, Soft Rock and Hip-Hop/Rap. His versatility will carry him a long way, with the feedback being tremendously positive so far. Doing better for his Dancehall culture is what drove him to become an artiste in the first place; his talent and determination will help Paronyde do just that.

Paronyde is aiming towards winning a Grammy within 5 years’ time, giving him greater opportunities to easily collaborate with major artistes. His message to other upcoming entertainers like himself is: “Continue to be real. Stay focused and ready. Have a goal and work hard towards it.”

Relying on the support of his newly built team, Paronyde is sure to achieve his goals. He owns and is signed to his label, Island Yacht Music, and is managed by Chantelle Wright out of New York. The team also consists of his Jamaica-based Publicist, Lesley Hayles; Supahype, of course, and chances are, with more to be added in the future.

So far, the team is working overtime to create a buzz around Paronyde, starting with a feature in the new, Trinidad-based CMIX Magazine in May 2021 and much more to follow. New music is also on the way.
