The ONE MusicFest, now in its third year,
has featured some of music's top talent including Common and Chrisette
Michele. Performing this year was Pop/Electronica artist Santigold,
R&B/Soul artist Marsha Ambrosius, Atlanta Rap artist Big Krit,
and Hip Hop Legends Doug E Fresh, Mc Lyte, Big Daddy Kane,
and Slick Rick "The Ruler."
Masquerade Park located in Atlanta's Fourth Ward
neighborhood played host to the Labor Day event. It was definitely an ideal spot
for the live music venture. There were food trucks galore offering everything
from Caribbean cuisine to home-made ice cream, local artists displaying artwork
and jewelry (loved the ArmCandy), and vendors (ya'll have got to try the
Hi*T - Organic Hemp Iced Tea). There was also a live DJ set, which kept
the multi-cultural audience rockin' throughout the day.
On Center stage New Jersey Jazz/R&B artist
Eric Roberson crooned. Marsha Ambrosius brought the sultry. Big
Krit, and Santigold delivered the electricity, but the highlight of
the evening was definitely Hip Hop's legendary artists who dropped hit after hit
without missing a beat (Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick's "The
Show" was a crowd favorite).
J. Carter and his crew are already planning for
next year. He expressed interest in splitting the fest into a two-day event to
include Rock, Reggae, and Hip-Hop. In a pre-ONE MusicFest interview he
stated "We are hoping to make Atlanta a Labor Day destination for live music"
and if this year's event is a foretelling of what's to come, I'm booking my
hotel early!
