All in attendance got a rare chance to see the "Emperor" of Dancehall
Shabba Ranks, who has not performed on Jamaican soils for eleven years, bring
out a young female talent, Cherine, who matched his sensual energy and
confidence on stage, displaying a performance of international standard. The
talented singer wrapped her powerful vocals around three of Shabba Rank's most
prominent female collaborations 'Telephone Love,' 'Mr. Loverman' and 'Twice my
Age'.
Together Shabba and Cherine created dancehall magic onstage to the
excitement of the audience as was evident from the deafening sounds of horns and
the multiple camera phones raised to snap pictures and videos of their
performance.
When asked how she felt about the performance Cherine said "I feel great,
many people met Cherine on Friday night I hope they weren't expecting Ms.
Anderson" the singer joked, "Shabba's fans came out to see a dancehall show so
that's what we put on. It is an honor to work with such an accomplished and
successful artist like him, a true professional and one of my favorite DJs, plus
he's real cool to work with."
The Dancehall Emperor himself took to twitter (@emperorranks) in support of
their performance and stated "@cherineanderson DA GIRL Ya HOTTTT, VOICE A KICKK
mad talentt"
Following this weekend's performance Cherine gets ready to film two music
videos in the coming weeks. First on the agenda is a video for the much talked
dancehall tune "Haffi Come Back", followed by the inspirational anthem "Eagles
& Doves". She will also appear in Montego Bay on August 6th for a Jamaica
Cultural Development Commission Emancipation event before heading off to
headline festivals in Canada.
