Lost in Time Music Festival

On Saturday, February 28 and Sunday, March 1, the Lost In Time Festival 2026 transformed Kingston into a living soundtrack of modern reggae music, welcoming over 16,500 attendees across two vibrant days of music and culture at Hope Gardens. In its third staging, the festival hosted over 8000 guests on Saturday and Sunday, marking continued growth and strong audience engagement for the annual event.

Across the weekend, fans experienced dynamic live performances across two stages alongside immersive cultural moments, reinforcing Lost In Time’s reputation as one of the Caribbean’s most thoughtfully curated music gatherings. What unfolded was a carefully constructed environment where Jamaica’s contemporary reggae movement met art, cuisine, fashion, and community under open skies.

Night One, headlined by Protoje, unfolded like a panoramic view of the island’s musical landscape. He brought out a multitude of surprise guests including Damian Marley, Stephen Marley, Koffee, Lila Iké, Romain Virgo, Alaine, Mortimer and more. Earlier in the evening, marquee performance sets from the soulful reggae star Lila Iké, the fearless storyteller Tanya Stephens, the silky-toned crooner Mortimer, the powerhouse vocalist Tessanne Chin, the neo-soul reggae singer Yeza, the conscious roots revivalist Iotosh, and the smooth reggae-fusion upcomer Joby Jay delivered a steady rhythm of soulful lyricism and live-band excellence, setting the tone for a weekend rooted in musicianship and message.

Night Two saw Chronixx deliver a powerful headline set, marking his first concert performance in Jamaica since 2019 and his first time performing songs from his latest album Exile since its prophetic release. Backed by his band and welcomed by a roaring Kingston crowd, he brought the two-day celebration to a spiritually-charged close. Prior to that, there were commanding performances from roots revivalist Jesse Royal, the stirring poet and singer Jah9, genre-blending vocalist Naomi Cowan, lyrically sharp reggae-fusion artist Royal Blu, melodic dancehall crooner D’Yani, and conscious reggae singer Dahvid Slur.

Founded by LeAnn Ollivierre and Oje “Protoje” Ollivierre, the festival draws inspiration from Protoje’s years of international touring and performances at major festivals worldwide, bringing that global festival sensibility back home to Kingston. Beyond the music, Lost In Time carried a deeper purpose this year. A portion of proceeds from the festival will support Hurricane Melissa relief efforts through the Lost In Time Foundation in partnership with American Friends of Jamaica. For the festival’s founders, both natives of St. Elizabeth, one of the parishes most heavily impacted by the storm, the initiative represents a deeply personal commitment to rebuilding communities through culture and collective action.

With its growing attendance, precise programming, and a lineup that bridges reggae’s pioneers and rising voices, Lost In Time Festival continues to position Kingston as a global creative capital, one where reggae’s evolution is not only heard, but experienced.

REGGAE ARTIST PROTOJE RELEASES NEW STUDIO ALBUM THE ART OF ACCEPTANCE

PROTOJE WILL DROP NEW STUDIO ALBUM
THE ART OF ACCEPTANCE ON APRIL 17
REVEALS TRACKLIST, ARTWORK & FULL INTERNATIONAL TOUR

Features All-Caribbean Lineup: Pressure Busspipe, Jesse Royal, Shenseea, Masicka,
Damian Marley & Stephen Marley

Protoje — one of the most vital voices in global reggae today — has officially announced the release of his seventh full length album, The Art of Acceptance, arriving April 17, 2026 via In.Digg.Nation Collective / Ineffable Records. Alongside the release date, Protoje has revealed the album’s striking cover art, full track listing, and an expansive international tour in support of the project.

The Art of Acceptance follows Protoje’s Grammy-nominated Third Time’s The Charm (2022) and continues his legacy of music rooted in consciousness, cultural truth, and spiritual grounding. The album is produced by longtime collaborator Winta James and features a predominantly Jamaican cast of collaborators, underscoring Protoje’s commitment to preserving and advancing the sound and spirit of Jamaica on a global stage.

Features include Jamaica's own Shenseea, Masicka, Jesse Royal, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and Stephen Marley as well as U.S. Virgin Islands' Pressure Busspipe — a powerful convergence of voices that reflects both generational legacy and modern innovation.

Leading up to the announcement, Protoje rolled out three singles from the album including “At We Feet” ft. Damian Marley, “BIG 45” and “Feel It”. The singles set the tone for an album that is expansive yet deeply personal — rooted in tradition while pushing forward sonically.

Protoje describes the album as both a spiritual reckoning and a creative rebirth.  “The Art of Acceptance’ isn’t just about peace — it’s about the raw, sometimes painful work of facing yourself fully, embracing the parts you might want to hide, and then radiating from that wholeness. I’ve worked on this album for the last three years with great focus alongside Winta James,  our first full project together since A Matter of Time (2022). The sounds came out beyond our expectations — a proper mixture of innovation and homage to our roots. Every feature on this album is a dream collaboration, and having them all come together feels like divine timing.”

Winta James adds: “Protoje and I first worked together over ten years ago, and this record perfectly illustrates his evolution. It’s an amalgamation of the sounds that inspired us over the years — from updated acoustic traditional reggae to the digital reggae revolution of the late ’80s and early ’90s, with a sprinkling of hip-hop-inspired grooves.”

In support of the album, Protoje will embark on The Art of Acceptance Tour, spanning Jamaica, Europe, the United Kingdom, and North America. He will get started ahead of the album release with his own curated 2-day Lost In Time Festival in Kingston, Jamaica. The tour includes major festival appearances such as New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Austin Reggae Festival, and Reggae Rise Up, alongside headline club and theater dates.

Sean Paul and Keyshia Cole’s “(When You Gonna) Give It Up to Me” Reenters the Global Charts in 2026

Since the start of 2026, "(When You Gonna) Give It Up to Me" by Sean Paul, featuring Keyshia Cole, has seen renewed momentum across streaming platforms, driven primarily by TikTok activity. The song has accumulated more than 40 million new streams worldwide since January 1, reflecting fresh listener engagement nearly two decades after its original release.

The renewed attention has translated to chart movement. As of February 4, the song appears at No. 114 on Spotify’s Global Top 200 Weekly, with territory-specific placements including No. 16 in Germany, No. 66 in the United Kingdom, and No. 131 in France. The United States, Germany, the UK, Russia, and France currently rank as the most active markets.

Originally released in 2006 via Atlantic and VP Records, the track appeared on the Step Up movie soundtrack and served as a key single from Sean Paul’s The Trinity era. It peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a multi-territory hit across Europe and North America. In November 2024, the song received Silver certification in the United Kingdom, further extending its international record.

The song’s current performance places it among a growing number of mid-2000s pop and dancehall releases whose catalog lives have been reshaped by TikTok-led discovery, particularly through nostalgia-driven circulation that reconnects contemporary audiences with earlier eras of mainstream crossover music.

The Biography

of

Chappy Pow Records

Written by Lesley Hayles | December 17, 2023

Dane Johnson aka Chapa was born in Jamaica, growing up in the parish of St Catherine on October 15. He attended the Jose Marti Technical High School. Chapa migrated to New Jersey in 2015 and has always loved music but really got involved in it when he was introduced to fellow producer Levels_LVL in 2021.

It was then he learned about producing at the Levels To Life Production studio in New Jersey but hasn’t started making his own beats yet. All his beats are suppled by ET of E.T. Tribe Entertainment, “one of the baddest beat maker,”says Chapa. Soon afterwards, he established his own label, Chappy Pow Records, which is currently based in Jamaica and New Jersey. By 2022, he produced his first track but his first official release was 1Thaly’s “Believe” which came out in June of 2023.

Chapa hasn’t worked with a lot of artists just yet but it’s all in the making, he adamantly stated. However, he’s worked with Nhance, son of Gaza Sheba who has quite a buzz going on now, and Kant10t so far on tracks titled “Family” and “Money Up”, a collaboration with 1Tahly, respectively. He says working with them was fine but in the future, he would like to do a project coproduced with DJ Mac and/or Rvssian. 1Tahly is the only artist Chapa has signed to his label at the moment with many unreleased tracks in the works for 2024 and other future projects.

“I hope to be one of the best producers in the music industry. I would like to share good music throughout my work showing others that no matter what we can make it if we put our minds to it. I’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback which I’m grateful for,” Chapa said.

With hard work and determination, Chapa is definitely on the right path to success, not just for himself but also for his label Chappy Pow Records and his artist 1Tahly.

Stepp_God “Chosen” in Top 10 on iTunes Reggae Chart

[By Lesley Hayles – September 26, 2023]

Brooklyn-born Dancehall/Hip-Hop fusion recording artiste, Stepp_God, is stepping his way up the US iTunes Reggae Chart with “Chosen”. The track, produced by his label Stepplyfe Records, is a Reggae track infused with Rock melodies.

Originally released on October 9, 2022 in the Rock genre, Stepp_God initially used this strategy to market himself as a multi-genre musician in order to see which would be best to randomly pick up on his music and provide support.

“It’s a harder genre to get placed but it was all a learning process for me,” he stated.

After deciding to re-release “Chosen” as a Reggae song in September 2023, it debuted at number 16. Now, it has peaked at number 6 as of the writing of this piece. The feeling, Stepp_God describes as “a rising energy I appreciate the evidence of work coming back to me full circle. I never expected my song to chart but I look forward to bringing more music that will grab the attention and audience I need to spread my message, which is love.”

The thought process going into the making of “Chosen” was a very reflective one for Stepp_God at the time. His mindset was at a point where he was paying attention to the things that needed to be changed.

“I was giving more than I was receiving and it became evident so I wrote about my relationship at the time and the friends I felt were just users in past situations.”

Therefore, “Chosen” is a real time experience and a combination of emotions that were birthed from his own meditations at that very moment in his life.

Stepp_God is of Jamaican heritage but developed his style through the different cultures of all Caribbean people. He and a friend created Stepplyfe together, as both were ambitious with the mindset to travel and make every stop their home. Some are known to call themselves ‘steppahs’ but he went the extra mile and made an acronym for his stage name and record label.

“I developed the acronym which my friend just wanted the name for a clothing brand and I would go along and make the record label, Stepplyfe Records. So as I had the name of the company, I have yet decided my artist name and what it would become. My friend developed the name ‘Top Steppah’.” He then decided to call himself ‘Stepp_God’ and also embraced the acronym: Striving Through Every Position Possible_Good Over Demons or God over Devil. “I added the underscore as a way to be different and easier to find me on all platforms,” he continued.

Stepplyfe Records is his label which he plans to bring to the world on an international level. Stepp_God has recorded many genres throughout his career but stated that Reggae, Dancehall and Hip-Hop are his true passions.
“Furthermore, I think music is becoming a splice of everything so open your mind and listen to the messages within the music. Connect with what connects with you in your moment.”

Stepp_God released a Hip-Hop/Country song called “Kountry Roads” on January 23, 2023. The collaboration was superb, however, he feels the song hasn’t gotten to the right ears yet and will therefore come up with a marketing strategy soon to push the track in a proper way.

At the moment, Stepp_God is set to release his newest single, “Rize”, at the beginning of October with a video to accompany it. He will also be in Jamaica to shoot 2 other music videos. Stepp_God is finishing up a recording and video with the legendary Horace Andy for a remake of his hit single “Skylarking”.

There are plans in place for a few shows he will be putting together to promote his new music in the near future as well as performances lined up in the US. With his hypnotic flows and Reggae roots, he is definitely an artiste to keep on the lookout for.

A’Legends Take New York Fashion Week

[Lesley Hayles – September 12, 2023]

A’Legends clothing line ripped the runway during the 2023 staging of New York Fashion Week. CEO Jenelle Alexia showcased her latest designs at the Dahsar Fashion Week Show on Sunday, September 10 in Manhattan, saving the best for last.

The fashion mogul is ecstatic over the success of the show as several celebrity models strutted the runway in a collection she describes as red carpet ready. This comes after receiving rave reviews about a piece she designed exclusively for Dancehall artiste, Vershon, at the inaugural Caribbean Music Awards ceremony in Brooklyn the previous weekend. Jenelle Alexia describes the fit as "clean, neat with a dash luxury" and costing almost half a million Jamaican dollars recently in the Jamaica Star.

A’Legends had 22 models (9 males, 13 females) brandish 18 looks which included Sig White, Aaron Tread, Brianna, Honey Bear and Devonte Lodge, among others. Jenelle Alexia is eternally grateful for the opportunity and support she got Dahsar and his glam squad.

Best believe this won’t be the last time anyone will be hearing from Jenelle Alexia as she embarks on a different journey in music production. She is set to release a rhythm compilation under her newly founded label, A'Legends Production. Jenelle Alexia is also gearing up to publish her third book, which will be her second children’s book in the Keira series.

“When I’m not designing, I’m being a mother as well as attending award shows, red carpet events and working in the lab, drawing not only blood but drafting new children’s book ideas and finding new ways to expose my brand!” - JenelleAlexia

Jinyus delivers stellar performances on Aidonia’s Frsh Drop US Tour

By Lesley Hayles

August 17, 2023

Dancehall artiste Shavaun Stewart, more popularly known as Jinyus, makes “Bare Noise” on Aidonia’s Frsh Drop tour. “Bare Noise” was a late addition to the now popular rhythm compilation Frsh Drop Riddim with Aidonia’s current hit song of the same name. Following the success of this latest single which peaked at number 4 on iTunes chart, Jinyus joined forces with Aidonia on this North American tour in 3 states.

Though a resident of the US for several years now, this is the first US tour for the Portmore native. The success of “Bare Noise” got Jinyus added on the second stop of the tour after missing out on the Connecticut show. Jinyus performed in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, August 12 then Baltimore, Maryland the next day, where he “shelled” the stage to a sold out crowd. The performance was unprecedented, to say the least.

Not only did Jinyus perform after the more mainstream artistes, but also before both headlining acts, a slot that most artistes of Jinyus’ caliber would not be able to deliver in and still managed to make “Bare Noise”. The running order was Moyann, Vanessa Bling, 450, Govana and then Jinyus, with Alkaline afterwards and of course Aidonia to close. A prime time slot immediately before Alkaline is a feat no one expected him to be able to handle but Jinyus used this to his advantage and dominated.

After the show, Jinyus took a photo with Aidonia backstage which he then posted to his social media page. Aidonia commented on the post saying: “OUTDEH!!!!!FAWUD MOVEMENT” then in turn shared it to his own Instagram story. Jinyus welcomes the endorsement from the famed entertainer.

Jinyus told his PR, Lesley Hayles, that “I delivered in a prime time slot and mash up the stage with an Onstage interview after that to top things off. It’s a good look.”

BRT Touring and Banga House Music Group are producers of the rhythm project as well as organizers of the tour. Jinyuscredits Markus from Platinum Kids for making the connection happen in order to record “Bare Noise” on the Frsh Drop Riddim. Next stop on tour is Miami, Florida on Sunday, September 17. Jinyus is excited for what lies ahead for this upcoming performance and will capitalize on this anticipation in order to gain momentum on his future endeavors and catapult his music career to higher heights.

Jinyus makes “Bare Noise” breaking into Top 5 on US iTunes Reggae Singles Chart for the first time

By Lesley Hayles
July 24, 2023

Recording Dancehall artiste, Jinyus, has finally hit it big on the US iTunes Reggae Singles Chart. His latest release, “Bare Noise” broke into the top 5 over the weekend, an unknown territory for Jinyus but a welcomed placement.

The song, “Bare Noise”, is on the Frsh Drop Riddim produced by Banga House MG and Crash Dummy Production. It originally features a track by Aidonia of the same name along with the likes of Ding Dong, Kraff and Govana. For “Bare Noise”, Jinyus teamed up with BRT Weekend Touring and the original producers. Popular New York disc jockey, Markus from Platinum Kids, is also a part of this production. It debuted at number 33 on the charts and quickly climbed to number 4 since its release date on Saturday, July 22, 2023.

The success of “Bare Noise” in such a short time could be credited to the fact that a sped up version of the song was released online a month prior (June 17) to the original single and went viral from a series of dance challenges on TikTok. With “Bare Noise” gaining so much traction, it has also forced the Speed Up version to move into the top 200 charts and peaking at number 102.

Jinyus, who is based in the US, is a Portmore native and carrying his lyrical prowess to the masses worldwide. “Bare Noise” might very well be the song to propel him to the next level.

The World Meets: H I T M A K E R

Hitmaker is a Jamaican music executive and producer who has made a significant impact in the Dancehall industry. He is particularly known for the Seduction Riddim, which features popular songs such as "Bring Life" by Kalado and "Apartment" by Demarco. With over 12 years of experience in the industry, Hitmaker believes that he has cemented his name and is still working hard to reach the highest point of his career.

Born Kedon Whyte, Hitmaker attended Donald Quarrie High School before matriculating to Excelsior Community College and later the School of Studio Engineering. He founded his own record label, Hitmaker Muzik, in 2009 and released his first track, "Nuh Fren" shortly after. Hitmaker has since worked with many industry standouts such as Masicka, Ishawna, Konshens, Spice, Chris Martin, Vershon and more. His other popular singles include "9 Months", "Body Calling" and "Dah Look Deh".

Hitmaker is passionate about creating a space for emerging artists and is currently working on collaborations to help his co-workers, especially the young and up-and-coming. He believes that there is a lack of professionalism, financing and trust in the process within the industry that is stalling its progress. Hitmaker also expressed an interest in music branding and marketing, though he has yet to officially take on this title.

Overall, Hitmaker's impact on the Dancehall industry cannot be ignored. His music and contributions have left a lasting impression, and his dedication to helping emerging artists ensures that his influence will continue to be felt in the years to come.

Reflecting on Hitmaker’s success on the music scene, Konshens, who worked with Hitmaker said, "Working with Hitmaker was an incredible experience. His professionalism and work ethic were outstanding, and his passion for creating great music was infectious. He has a unique ability to bring out the best in artists and create hit songs that resonate with audiences. It was an honour to collaborate with him, and I look forward to future projects together."

Despite facing many challenges in the industry, Hitmaker reflected on his journey so far in a sit down interview with Splash Magazine where he said, "The journey in music is bittersweet, I must say. I had great moments that became a classic in music, and I had not-so-great moments, and the journey never stops. [I'm] still working hard to reach the highest point — the vertex!"
